On Saturday, June 14th, to commemorate World Art Nouveau Day, celebrated on Tuesday the 10th, Sueca welcomed a visit from the cultural association “Amigos del Modernismo de Alcoy.” The group took part in the Modernism Route, guided by Sueca Turisme.
The visitors, dressed in period attire typical of the turn of the 20th century, were officially received at Sueca’s Town Hall by the Councillor for Tourism, Tere Ribes, in a welcoming event that highlighted the strong cultural bond between the two municipalities. During their visit, the group explored the main buildings and architectural elements that make up Sueca’s rich modernist heritage.
This encounter, in addition to being enriching, provided an opportunity to strengthen ties between municipalities that share an interest in promoting and preserving Art Nouveau as a shared cultural legacy. It is no coincidence that Sueca is present every year at Alcoy’s Modernist Fair, held each September as part of the city’s Modernist Week. Likewise, our city also participates in the Modernist Fair of the neighboring town of Carcaixent, another major event that underscores the significance of this artistic and cultural movement in the Valencian region.
Since 2006, Sueca has been part of the European Route of Art Nouveau, an international network of cities with a prominent modernist legacy. This recognition has turned Sueca into a must-visit destination for tourists and admirers of the movement, drawn by the beauty and uniqueness of a heritage that continues to inspire fascination.
With initiatives like this, Sueca strengthens its role as a cultural and heritage reference point on the European modernist map, promoting a sustainable tourism offering with a distinct identity and great historical value.
